Konstantin Bykovskii

Bykovskii, Konstantin Mikhailovich

Born Apr. 3 (15), 1841; died Oct. 3 (16), 1906. Russian architect. Son of the architect M. D. Bykovskii.

Bykovskii studied at the St. Petersburg Academy of Arts (1859-65) under N. L. Benios. He was chairman of the Moscow Architectural Society (1894-1903). In Moscow, he built large monumental public buildings, with clear and carefully thought-out planning: the university clinics on Bol’shaia Pirogov skaia Street (1885-89), the State Bank on Neglinnaia Street (1890-92), and several university buildings (including the Zoological Museum) on Herzen Street (1896-1906). Bykovskii, in his decoration of facades, followed the eclectic tendency that ruled architecture at that time.
