释义 | Marckwardt, AlbertMarckwardt, Albert (Henry)(1903–75) linguist; born in Grand Rapids, Mich. A graduate of the University of Michigan (1925; Ph.D. 1933), he became professor of English there (1928–62) and then at Princeton (1963–72). He wrote several influential textbooks on the English language, including Introduction to the English Language (1942) and American English (1958). He was president of the American Dialect Society (1962–64), the Linguistic Society of America (1962), and the National Council of Teachers of English (1967), and he served as a consultant on language and education to the U.S. Information Agency, the U.S. Office of Education, and the Foreign Service Institute of the Department of State. |
