Lowry, Bates

Lowry, Bates

(1923– ) art historian; born in Cincinnati, Ohio. He studied at the University of Chicago (Ph.B. 1944; M.A. 1953; Ph.D 1956). He taught at many universities, including New York University (1957–59), Brown (1963–68), and the University of Massachusetts (1971). He served as director of the Museum of Modern Art (1968–69), and wrote several books on architecture.
