adjective Referring to healthcare services in the UK which are provided in the evenings, at night and at weekends which, for most GP surgeries, is from 8 a.m. (0800) to 6:30 p.m. (1830). Out of hours is not the same as Extended Hours, which some GP surgeries offer as a so-called directed enhanced service.
noun The emergency service provided by individual GP practices in the UK or part of a co-operative, whereby patients are able to phone or receive a home visit by a GP when the surgery is closed.
