Kotliarevskii, Nestor Aleksandrovich

Born Jan. 21 (Feb. 2), 1863, in Moscow; died May 12, 1925, in Leningrad. Russian literary critic. Academician of the St. Petersburg Academy of Sciences (1909).

Kotliarevskii graduated from Moscow University in 1885 and continued his education in France (until 1889). His works are devoted to such topics as Western European and Russian sentimentalism and romanticism, the Russian “real novel,” and the literary works of the Decembrists. His methodological positions were close to those of the cultural-historical school, but using this orientation, he sought to lay the psychological groundwork for literary phenomena.
