a city (until 1966, a settlement) and the center of the Kotovo Raion, Volgograd Oblast, RSFSR. It is located 16 km from the Lapshinskaia railroad station (on the Balashov-Kamyshin line) and 250 km north of Volgograd. Population, 21,000 (1970). Kotovo has a gas-processing plant, a factory producing reinforced-concrete articles, an experimental plant of the All-Union Scientific Research Institute of Drilling Techniques, and a creamery. The Korobkovskoe petroleum and gas fields are located near Kotovo.
