Wilhelm Koppers

Koppers, Wilhelm

 

Born Feb. 8, 1886, in Menzelen, Ger-many; died Jan. 23, 1961, in Vienna. Austrian ethnologist and Catholic theologian. One of the leading representatives of the reactionary Vienna school in ethnology.

Koppers was a close associate of Pater W. Schmidt, who was a proponent of the theory of Urmonotheismus (primordial monotheism). He went on expeditions to Tierra del Fuego in 1921–22 and India in 1938–39 (where he studied the Bhil).
