Krasnyi Sulin

 

(until 1926, Sulin), a city in Rostov Oblast, RSFSR, in the Donbas, on the Kundriuch’ia River (Don basin). Railroad station (Sulin) on the Millerovo-Rostov-on-Don line, 133 km northeast of Rostov-on-Don; population, 45,000 (1972). It has a metallurgical plant, a steam power plant (the Nesvetai State Regional Electric Power Plant), a factory for the manufacture of metal structures and items, and a building materials (reinforced-concrete structures and crushed stone) plant. There are food enterprises, including a meat-packing plant and a dairy. The city is the site of a metallurgical technicum and a branch of the Shakhty Power Technicum. Krasnyi Sulin was founded in the 1860’s and became a city in 1926.
