Kropotkin, Petr Nikolaevich
Born Nov. 11 (24), 1910, in Moscow. Soviet geologist. Corresponding member of the Academy of Sciences of the USSR (1966).
Kropotkin graduated from the S. Ordzhonikidze Moscow Geological Prospecting Institute in 1932. Since 1959, he has headed the Tectonics and Geophysics Laboratory of the Geological Institute of the Academy of Sciences of the USSR. His main work has been in regional geology (Kazakhstan and the Far East) and geotectonics—the tectonic development of the earth’s crust and of the earth as a whole, continental drift, and the relation of granite magmatism to tectonic processes. He has been awarded the Order of the Red Star and various medals.
