memory clinic

memory clinic

Any of an estimated 250 specialist services for assessing and diagnosing memory disorders in patients with early dementia, which were first developed in UK academic centres in the 1980s. Memory clinics may use a team (neurologist, mental health nurse, psychologist, occupational therapist) approach to assess a patient’s mental status by an interview, physical exam and, if warranted, brain imaging. Early flags for dementia include changes in performing daily tasks, managing finances or coping in social settings.
