Kruse Rhododendron State Reserve
Location:20 miles north of Jenner, near milepost 43 on Highway 1.
Facilities:Hiking, nature, and horseback trails (5 miles).
Activities:Hiking, horseback riding.
Special Features:Reserve features acres of wild rhododendrons, which bloom from Aprilthrough June, as well as second-growth redwood, Douglas fir, and tanoak. In addition to the rhododendrons, other understory plants includeferns, salals, pacific wax myrtle, and California huckleberry. Therhododendrons grew here after a forest was destroyed by a severe forestfire.
