Libya Revolution Day Libya Revolution DaySeptember 1This national holiday commemorates the revolution, led by Col. Muammar Qaddafi (b. 1938), that ousted King Idris I (Muhammad Idris el-Senussi, 1890-1983), who had ruled since 1952, and established a republic known as the People's Arab Jamahiriyah on this day in 1969.
