Minims

A brand name for a range of eye drop preparations dispensed in sterile, single-dose, snap-off plastic vials. The current range of 19 preparations have replaced the former undesirable practice of using the same multi-dose bottle of eye drops for more than one patient. Minims are used for a range of ophthalmic purposes including dilatation (cyclopentolate) and constriction (pilocarpine) of pupils; treatment of bacterial infections (gentamicin) and GLAUCOMA (pilocarpine); temporary paralysis of the focusing muscle ring (cyclopentolate); anaesthetizing of the cornea (amethocaine, proxymetacine); corneal epithelial staining for erosions (Rose Bengal) and for ulcers and foreign bodies (fluoresceine) and to conduct aplanation tonometry (proxymetacine and fluoresceine); and the control of inflammation (dexamethasone).
