Kundzich, Aleksei Leonardovich

Born Apr. 9 (22), 1904, in the village of Pavlovka, now in Vinnitsa Oblast; died June 20, 1964, in Yalta. Soviet Ukrainian writer. Son of a peasant.

Kundzich began publishing his work in 1925. His collection of short stories Along the Red Road appeared in 1926. In 1941 he volunteered for the front. His works of the war years are collected in the books The Force of Anger (1942) and The Road to Kremenets (1946). After the war he wrote on production themes (The Factory Notebook, 1948). Kundzich translated such works as Tolstoy–s War and Peace and L. M. Leonov–s The Russian Forest into Ukrainian and wrote several studies on the theory of translation.
