Kuvandyk

a city (until 1953, a settlement); administrative center of Kuvandyk Raion, Orenburg Oblast, RSFSR. Located on the left bank of the Sakmara River (a tributary of the Ural). Railroad station on the Orenburg-Orsk line, 194 km east of Orenburg. Population, 23,000 (1970). The city has a cryolite plant and a plant that produces mechanical presses, as well as enterprises of railroad transportation.
