释义 | Liggett, HunterLiggett, Hunter(1857–1935) soldier; born in Reading, Pa. A tailor's son, he saw service on the western frontier, and in the Spanish-American War and the Philippine insurrection. Recognized for his intelligent professionalism, he served as president of the Army's War College (1912–17). In World War I, he led a division and a corps in France through several major actions, then commanded the U.S. First Army in the Meuse-Argonne offensive (autumn 1918), in which Allied forces pierced the Hindenburg Line. He commanded the Army of Occupation in Germany (1918–19) and retired in 1921. |
