LusciniaLusciniaa genus of birds of the family Turdidae of the order Passeriformes. The best-known representative is the thrush nightingale (Luscinia luscinia), a brownish bird 17 cm in length with a rust-colored tail. The thrush nightingale is found in Europe and western Asia east to the Enisei River and south to the Northern Caucasus. It is migratory, wintering in Africa. The preferred habitat is moist thickets and river valleys. The nest is placed on the ground or very low in bushes. A clutch contains four to six greenish or bluish speckled eggs, which are incubated by the female for 13 days. The diet consists of spiders, insects, worms, and berries. The song is rich and varied. The nightingale (L. megarhynchos) is more southern and western in distribution than the thrush nightingale, occurring from Spain to the Western Pamirs.
