Likhachev, Nikolai Viktorovich
Born Nov. 26 (Dec. 8), 1901, in Moscow. Soviet virologist and immunologist. Academician of the V. I. Lenin All-Union Academy of Agricultural Sciences (1956).
Likhachev graduated from the Moscow Zooveterinary Institute in 1929. From 1937 he was head of the laboratory of biological preparations against viral diseases in the State Scientific Control Institute of Veterinary Preparations. Most of his scientific work has dealt with viral diseases of animals. Likhachev developed and proposed biological preparations against many viral and bacterial infections of animals. He has been awarded the State Prize of the USSR (1946) for working out a method of obtaining a Formol vaccine against sheep pox. Likhachev has been awarded an Order of Lenin, four other orders, and medals.
