Mergui

a city and port in southern Burma, in the district of Tenasserim, on the Malacca Peninsula. Located at the point where the Tenasserim River flows into the Andaman Sea. Population, 33, 700 (1953). Mergui is the center of a state-run pearl fishing and processing enterprise and a fishing industry. Tin and tungsten deposits are located near the city, as are rubber plantations.
