Lactarius Flexuosus

 

a pileate agaric fungus. The cap, which reaches 10 cm in diameter, has a wavy margin and is pinkish or brownish gray. The gills are often sinuate and pale yellow. The thick, hollow stem becomes narrow below. The milky juice is white and acrid in taste. The entire mushroom has dense flesh. It grows from July to September, mainly in birch or mixed (with birch) forests. The mushroom is edible in pickled form; before pickling it must be steeped or boiled in water.
