Nikolai Leontevich Brodskii

Brodskii, Nikolai Leont’evich

 

Born Nov. 15 (27), 1881, in Yaroslavl; died June 5, 1951, in Moscow. Soviet literary scholar. He graduated from Moscow University in 1904 and became a professor there in 1926. He became an acting member of the Academy of Pedagogical Sciences of the RSFSR in 1947.

Brodskii’s works are devoted to the study of 19th-century Russian literature in relation to the development of Russian social thought. (He has written about M. Iu. Lermontov, V. G. Belinskii, A. I. Herzen, I. S. Turgenev, the Slavophiles, Westernizers, and others.)
