LASIK-associated neurotrophic epitheliopathy LASIK-associated neurotrophic epitheliopathy (noor″ŏ-trof′ik, -trōf′ ep″ĭ-thē″lē-rop′ă-thē) Drying of the cornea resulting from laser-assisted in-situ keratomileusis (LASIK). Tear production by affected eyes is reduced, and the patient experiences dry eye sensations, reduced blinking, and sometimes eye pain. The condition is believed to result from an injury to the nerves that supply the cornea. It may be treated with artificial tear solutions, medications like cyclosporine, serum eye drops, or plugging of the puncta of the eye. |
