Established: 1912.
Location:Northwestern Wyoming, north of Jackson.
Facilities:Visitor center, viewing sites, hiking trails, auto tour route, picnic areas.
Activities:Hunting, fishing, horse-drawn sleigh ride tours, educational programs.
Special Features:In late October and early November, about 7,500 elk begin migrating from their high summer range in Grand Teton National Park, southern Yellowstone National Park, and neighboring national forests to winter here at the refuge.
Habitats: Nearly 25,000 acres of grass meadows, sagebrush flats, timbered foothills, and marshes.
Access: Open during daylight hours.
Wild life: Elk. Also bison, moose, bighorn sheep, mule deer, antelope, bald eagles, sandhill cranes, sonbirds and waterfowl.
