Maiakovskii

(until 1940, Bagdadi), an urban-type settlement, administrative center of Maiakovskii Raion, Georgian SSR. Located on the Khanistskali River (a tributary of the Rioni), 19 km southeast of the Rioni railroad station (on the Samtredia-Khashuri line). The settlement has a cannery, a winery, and a furniture factory. A people’s theater is in Maiakovskii. V. V. Mayakovsky was born in the village of Bagdadi in 1893; a museum is located there.
