Local-Area Augmentation System

[‚lōk·əl ¦er·ē·ə ‚ȯg·mən′tā·shən ‚sis·təm] (navigation) A type of local-area DGPS, developed by the Federal Aviation Administration in the United States, which is intended for aviation users in category II and III precision approaches and which broadcasts in the 108-117.95-megahertz band presently used for very high frequency omindirectional range (VOR) systems and instrument landing systems (ILS).
