| 释义 |
abdominal thrust maneuver Abdominal Thrust Manoeuvre A popular term for two slightly different manoeuvres (1) The Heimlich manoeuvre used for victims choking on a bolus of food (2) The Heimlich manoeuvre used specifically for drowning victims to remove fluids from the upper respiratory tract. The American Heart Association actively discourages abdominal thrusting for drowning/near-drowning resuscitation and, in its guidelines, states, "Attempts to remove water from the breathing passages by any means other than suction (e.g. abdominal thrusts or the Heimlich manoeuvre) are unnecessary and potentially dangerous. The routine use of abdominal thrusts or the Heimlich manoeuvre for drowning victims is not recommended. There is no evidence that water acts as an obstructive foreign body. Manoeuvres to relieve foreign body airway obstructions are not recommended for drowning victims because such maneuvers are not necessary and they can cause injury, vomiting and aspiration and delay CPR."abdominal thrust maneuver Emergency medicine A maneuver used in drowning victims to remove fluids from the upper respiratory tract; there are no controlled studies that support its efficacy See Drowning. Cf Heimlich maneuver. |
