MCM complex

MCM complex

Mini-chromosome maintenance complex. A group of 6 proteins (MCM2, -3, -4, -5, -6, and -7) that form a ring structure, which comprises the replicative helicase essential for the “once-per-cell cycle” DNA replication initiation and elongation in eukaryotic cells; it is required for the entry in S-phase and cell division. There are 6 active ATPase sites in the ring that contribute differentially to MCM complex’s helicase activity.
