MyosotisenUKMyosotis(forget-me-not), a genus of annual, biennial, and perennial plants of the family Boraginaceae. The small flowers are in bostryces; often they are gathered in paniculate inflorescences. The corolla, which is salverform and has a short tubule and a five-lobed scale, is light blue or, less frequently, white. The fruit consists of four nutlets. There are approximately 50 species of Myosotis (according to other sources, up to 80), distributed in temperate regions of Eurasia, in the mountains of tropical Africa, and in southern Africa, Australia, and New Zealand. A few species are found in the Americas. There are approximately 30 species in the USSR. Some, including the common scorpion grass (Myosotis arvensis) and the species M. micrantha, grow as weeds among crops, on fallow lands, and in wastelands. Many species are ornamental. The wood forget-me-not (M. sylvatica) and its varieties are widely cultivated. Other cultivated species include the large-flowered M. palustris and the alpine forget-me-not (M. alpestris).
