thioproline thioproline A normal metabolite of 5-hydroxytryptamine composed of formaldehyde linked to cysteine, which decreases spontaneous food intake and increases survival and neurological function (in animal models); it is also carcinoprotective, possibly by interrupting the cancer’s blood supply, inhibiting DNA synthesis by the malignant cells, absorbing carcinogenic nitrites and forming cyclic AMP, which cause the malignant cells to return to a state of metabolic normalcy. A Japanese research paper has shown that thioproline inhibits the development of adenocarcinoma of the oesophagus in rats with experimental reflux disease. |
