systemic racism

systemic racism

Racism resulting from the inherent biases and prejudices of the policies and practices of social and political organizations, groups, or institutions. It is also called "institutional racism," a term coined by Black Power activists Charles V. Hamilton and Stokely Carmichael (later known as Kwame Ture) to distinguish it from individual racism, which is typically more overt. Systemic racism keeps the minorities of this city confined to dilapidated apartment buildings in slums. Racial profiling by the police is an act of systemic racism, and we won't stand for it!See also: racism
