Victory Parade

 

a parade of troops held in Moscow in Red Square on June 24, 1945, to mark the victory over fascist Germany in the Great Patriotic War (1941–45).

The units that took part in the parade included composite regiments of the Karelian; Leningrad; First Baltic; Third, Second, and First Byelorussian; and First, Fourth, Second, and Third Ukrainian fronts. Also participating were units of the People’s Commissariat of Defense and of the Soviet Navy, military academies and military schools, as well as troops of the Moscow Garrison. Marshal of the Soviet Union G. K. Zhukov, deputy supreme commander in chief, reviewed the parade and Marshal of the Soviet Union K. K. Rokossovskii was parade commander. During the passing of the troops, front and army commanders and Heroes of the Soviet Union marched with banners of famous units at the head of the composite regiments of the fronts. The march of the composite front regiments was concluded with a column of soldiers carrying 200 lowered banners of the defeated fascist German troops. The banners were thrown in front of the V. I. Lenin Mausoleum.
