spiraling slipstream

spiraling slipstream

spiraling slipstreamAn airflow generated by the propeller flowing over the aircraft fuselage aft of the propeller in the form of a spiral, causing it to yaw and roll in one direction. As the airplane propeller rotates through the air in a clock-wise direction, as viewed from the rear of the airplane, the propeller forces the air rearward in the spiraling clock-wise direction of flow around the fuselage. A portion of this spiraling airflow strikes the left side of the vertical stabilizer, forcing the airplane tail to the right and the nose to the left, and the horizontal stabilizer and wings, causing a roll to the right.
