a city and administrative center of Turinsk Raion, Sverdlovsk Oblast, RSFSR. Landing on the Tura River, in the Ob’ River basin. Served by the Turinsk-Ural’skii railroad station on the Sverdlovsk-Tavda line, 263 km northeast of Sverdlovsk. Population, 22,700 (1975). Turinsk has a pulp and paper combine, a match factory, three logging and timber distribution establishments, and a toy factory. It also has two food-processing enterprises: a butter factory and a brewery. There is a medical school located in the city.
