Automated Countdown
Automated Countdown
(ASPS), a single automated system simultaneously serving the entire group of automatically controlled systems at each individual launching pad as well as the countdown installation of the entire cosmodrom. This system takes part in the placing of the space capsule and its rocket carrier on the launching pad, the mating of these systems with ground communications, the rocket propellant fueling operation, the propellant temperature control, and finally the countdown. The ASPS also regulates all operations connected with the storage and temperature control of the propellant components, their semiautomatic dumping from the tanks contained in the carrier rocket, and the carrier vehicle’s lift-off from its launch pad. A central countdown console controls the various automated countdown system components and subsystems.
