释义	spot height spot height n (Physical Geography) a mark on a map indicating the height of a hill, mountain, etc spot height spot height The height of the highest point in a given area expressed in feet or meters above sea level, as marked on topographical charts. These are indicated by black dots with adjacent numerals. They have been measured accurately and are used to show local peaks, which are significantly higher than the adjacent higher contour line. The position of the point and the height of the highest elevation normally are printed on the margin of the particular chart. In the 1:500,000 series, the spot height of the highest elevation is shown in large numbers against a white background outlined in black. Spot heights are also used to indicate the height of airfields above sea level. Also called spot elevation.
