Baida, Grigorii Ivanovich

 

Born Dec. 3(16), 1902, in the village of Leski, now in the Cherkassy Raion, Kiev Oblast. Combine operator; twice Hero of Socialist Labor (1951, 1958). Honored Machine Operator of Agriculture of the Ukrainian SSR. Member of the CPSU since 1959.

From 1925 to 1928, Baida worked for kulaks as a laborer and from 1929 to 1932, in a factory. He was a tractor operator at the Krinichki Machine and Tractor Station in the Krinichki Raion (1932–38) and a combine operator at the Novomoskovsk Machine and Tractor Station (1938–41, 1945–59) and Vydvizhenetz Kolkhoz in Novomoskovsk Raion, Dnepropetrovsk Oblast, Ukrainian SSR (since 1959). In 1950 he threshed 8,197 centners of grain and oil-producing crops in 25 working days with a C-6 combine. Baida also achieved high production in subsequent years. A deputy to the fifth convocation of the Supreme Soviet of the Ukrainian SSR, he has been awarded two Orders of Lenin, two other orders, a medal of the USSR, and also the large gold medal and other medals of the All-Union Agricultural Exhibition.
