Teso
Teso
(also Bakedi, Itesyo, Elgumi, Wami; self-designation, Iteso), a people of Uganda living northeast of Lake Kyoga. The Teso number more than 600,000 (1970 census). A small number live in the border region between Kenya and Uganda. The language of the Teso is related to the Nilotic languages. Ancient traditional beliefs are preserved, although some individuals have accepted Christianity. In the past the Teso were nomadic cattle raisers, but most have now become settled farmers and cattle raisers.
