Romberg's sign A tendency to sway or fall while standing upright with the feet together, the arms stretched out and the eyes closed. A positive Romberg's sign suggests disease of the balancing mechanism in the inner ear or of its nerve connections or a loss of sensory information about the position of the legs (proprioception), usually from disease of the sensory tracts in the spinal cord.
