variable intake

variable intake

variable intakeA variable-geometry inlet whose shape can be varied to allow for changes in temperature, such as is experienced with a variation in altitude, engine airflow, and flight speed. In this type of intake, the oblique shock wave should be positioned to occur at the intake lip, just as with the normal shock wave. Also, the bleed-off doors may be used to divert any excess flow and to position the normal shock for optimum shock patterns and recovery. See also variable inlet.
