(rap'ŏ-pōrt-loy'ber-ing shŭnt) A shunt of the glycolytic pathway in which 1,3 diphosphoglycerate (1,3-DPG) is converted to 2,3-DPG. 2,3-DPG enhances the release of oxygen from hemoglobin to the tissues.
