TriglochinTriglochin(arrow grass), a genus of perennial herbs of the family Juncaginaceae. The leaves are radical and linear. The greenish or yellowish flowers are bisexual, small, and inconspicuous; they are gathered into a raceme or spike. The perianth is simple and consists of six leaflets. The fruit is a schizocarp with six or three carpels. There are about 15 cosmopolitan species of arrow grass. The plants are most commonly found in Australia and in temperate regions of South America. The USSR has two species: the marsh arrow grass (T. palustris) and the sea arrow grass (T. maritima). The marsh arrow grass, which has three lanceolate pointed carpels, grows along bodies of water, marshes, and marshy meadows. The sea arrow grass, which has six ovate carpels, is found along seaside and damp solonetzic meadows and marshes. Both species are readily eaten by livestock as pasturage or hay.
