past life/lives therapy

past life/lives therapy

Paranormal
A therapeutic technique developed in the 1960s and based on the belief that illness may be caused by a person’s previous lives influencing the subconscious. Past life/lives the therapy asserts that once emotional traumas (“psychic intrusions”) are brought to the surface, diseases can be addressed. It is uncertain whether the imprints attributed to a past life actually represent a previous physical experience; possible mechanisms that would explain the past life/lives imprint include fantasy or day dreaming, cryptamnesia (something that was read or seen which becomes incorporated into one’s own “déjà vu" memory), fraud (conscious or unconscious story-telling), collective unconscious, inherited memory, telepathy (mental acquisition of knowledge or images from other people) or the result of channelling or mediumistic possession. Past life/lives therapy is allegedly useful in treating interpersonal relationships and poor communication, guilt, phobias and compulsions, asthma, and low back pain.

Contraindications
Schizophrenia, clients with rigid religious backgrounds or emotional lability, and overintellectual individuals—who tend to focus on the reality and not on the therapeutic opportunity.
