Royston, Robert

Royston, Robert

(1918–2008)San Francisco Bay–area landscape architect influenced by artists like Kandinsky and Miro, making art out of the transition between structure and landscape. Royston’s numerous California projects include St. Mary’s Square in San Francisco, Mitchell Park and Bowden Park, both in PaloAlto, and Central Park in Santa Clara. This work led to the development of his landscape matrix theory of planned community design, where open spaces link together throughout the development.
