Rozanov, Boris Sergeevich
Born June 30 (July 12), 1896, in Moscow. Soviet surgeon. Doctor of medical sciences (1950). Honored Scientist of the RSFSR (1957).
In 1919, Rozanov graduated from the medical department of Moscow University. He began working at the N. V. Sklifosovskii Institute of First Aid under S. S. Iudin in 1926. In 1953 he became a professor and head of the first subdepartment of surgery at the Central Institute for the Advanced Training of Physicians and also head surgeon of the S. P. Botkin Hospital.
Rozanov’s principal works dealt with surgery of the esophagus, stomach, and gall bladder and with restorative operations performed on nonhepatic bile ducts. He developed original methods for removing foreign bodies from the esophagus and for draining the mediastinum. In 1945 he was one of the first in the USSR to remove successfully the upper section of a cancerous esophagus.
Rozanov is an honorary member of the All-Union Society of Surgeons and a member of various international societies of surgeons. He has been awarded the Order of Lenin, two other orders, and various medals.
