Volkovysk

 

a city in Grodno Oblast, Byelorussian SSR, on the Ross’ River (a tributary of the Neman). A railroad station. Population, 23,000 (1970). There are plants manufacturing casting machinery, two brickyards, a cannery (processing fruits and vegetables), and a factory preparing infants’ dry formulas. The city has a veterinary technicum, a pedagogical school, and the P. I. Bagration Military-Historical Museum. A cement plant in located 12 km from Volkovysk.
