Rubber Linoleum

(in Russian, relin), a floor covering made from synthetic raw rubber. Rubber linoleum is produced in roll form—the roll may be ≥ 12 m long, 1,000–1,600 mm wide, and 3 mm thick.

In the USSR two- and three-ply rubber linoleum is most common. Two-ply rubber linoleum has a surface layer >0.8 mm thick, made of a colored mixture of synthetic raw rubber and a filler, and a lower layer, or underlayer, made of ground scrap. Three-ply rubber linoleum has an intermediate heat-insulating layer, which is made of porous rubber.

Rubber linoleum is strong and elastic, exhibits low heat and sound conductance, and is resistant to the action of water. It is used in residential, public, and industrial buildings primarily where there is heavy traffic or a possibility for the accumulation of water.
