Sergeev, Aleksei Tikhonovich

 

Born Jan. 24, 1919, in the village of Gerasimovka, Tambov Oblast. Soviet singer (bass). People’s Artist of the USSR (1967). Member of the CPSU since 1956. In 1968, Sergeev graduated from the Gnesin’s Music Pedagogic Institute, where he studied voice under E. V. Ivanov. In 1940 he became a member of the chorus of the Song and Dance Ensemble of the Soviet Army, and in 1950, a soloist. Sergeev’s repertoire includes folk songs as well as works by Russian, Western, and Soviet composers; among these compositions are A. V. Aleksandrov’s “Poem About the Ukraine” and Eremka’s song from Serov’s opera The Power of Evil. Sergeev has toured many countries with the Song and Dance Ensemble of the Soviet Army. He has been awarded two orders and several medals.
