Sergei Vallander

Vallander, Sergei Vasil’evich

 

Born June 8 (21), 1917, in Krasnoe Selo, now in Leningrad Oblast. Soviet specialist in the field of mechanics. Corresponding member of the Academy of Sciences of the USSR (1966). Member of the CPSU since 1944. Professor at Leningrad University since 1950.

Vallander’s principal works are in the area of hydrodynamics and gas dynamics: the theory of grids, supersonic wing theory, the law of hypersonic similarity, and the aerodynamics of rarefied gases (in which he created an entire trend). Vallander has been awarded the Order of Lenin, three other orders, and medals.
