Sergushev, Mikhail Sergeevich

(real name. Markel Prokop’evich Aksenov). Born in 1886, in the village of Korovi-no, in what is now Moscow Oblast; died Oct. 30, 1930, in Moscow. Participant in the revolutionary movement in Russia. Member of the Communist Party from 1904.

The son of peasants, Sergushev was a worker as a young man. He began his revolutionary activity in Riga. In 1905 he was arrested, and in 1907 was banished to eastern Siberia, where he continued his party work. After the February Revolution of 1917 he went to Petrograd. He was sent by the Central Committee of the RSDLP(B) to Sormovo, and from July to December 1917 he was secretary of the party’s Sormovo Committee. He was a delegate to the Sixth Congress of the RSDLP(B).

During the October days of 1917, Sergushev was a member of the staff of the Red Guard of Nizhny Novgorod (now the city of Gorky). He also belonged to the Nizhny Novgorod Provincial Committee of the RSDLP(B) and the Nizhny Novgorod Soviet. He was secretary of the Nizhny Novgorod Provincial Committee of the RCP(B) from December 1917 to 1919, thereafter serving as chairman. From 1919 to 1920 he was chairman of the party’s Voronezh Provincial Committee. From 1920 to 1921 he was a member of the Central Committee of the CP(B) of Turkestan and director of a section of the committee. He worked for the Central Committee of the RCP(B) from 1921, and from 1924 he served in the Central Control Commission-Workers’ and Peasants’ Inspection. He was a delegate to the Seventh through Sixteenth Congresses of the ACP(B), and from 1924 was a member of the Central Control Commission.
