Vigen Khechumian
Khechumian, Vigen Gaikovich
Born Dec. 19, 1918, in Yerevan; died there, Apr. 17, 1975. Soviet Armenian writer. Member of the CPSU from 1949.
Khechumian graduated from the faculty of history of the University of Yerevan in 1940. He engaged in scholarly work in the Matenadaran and was first published in 1938.
Khechumian’s short-story collection Zvartnots (1945) deals with the medieval period in Armenia. Some of his historical short stories and novellas are collected in The Book of Wanderings (1954; Russian translation, 1958). He also wrote the novel Here in the South (1955; Russian translation, 1956), the historical novel The Book of Genesis (1966; Russian translation, 1971), and scholarly works on medieval Armenian miniaturists and architects. Khechumian’s Book of Struggle (1968) is a collection of short stories and sketches written during the 1960’s.
